WELCOME

To those attending meetings at the Hamilton 12 & 12 Center:

The Hamilton 12 & 12 Center (the 12’s) is quickly approaching the end of its 3rd year in operation. We are grateful to all of you for the success we have experienced in serving thousands of recovering alcoholics and addicts.  This letter seeks to inform you of what we have accomplished, our plans, and ask for your continued support.

Ultimately, the members of the Executive Committee of the 12’s wanted to ensure a place for recovery to continue in Hamilton in both the short and long term.  When re-opening the 12’s in 2022, the majority of the original rehabilitation of the building was completed on donations from the founding members.  Closing the building when meetings are not occurring helps to limit increased costs and volunteer hours needed to help run the space. We have seen a steady increase in meetings and a number of them are now seeking the ability to be recognized groups.  We have learned a better way to operate and look to create a stable club to ensure recovery for the current and future addicts and alcoholics of the area who seek recovery.

In the short term, we have been successful.  As the former club was closing, only several months would elapse where the building was left vacant. Maintenance problems were fixed, the look and feel of the interior was improved, and an operating model that works for everyone was proven successful.  The key to that success is based on meetings paying their rent and in individuals donating to the club.  Our collections from meetings have leveled off.  Very few individuals have stepped up to donate to keep the club operating.

We were recently notified that effective in November, the 12’s rent will increase by 40% - and that can only be guaranteed with the one-year lease we have. We have built a respectable reserve of funds and continue to operate soundly, but we need your help to continue moving forward. Our long-term goal is to acquire a property so that we can be free of landlords and ensure a center for recovery in the future. Our short-term goals are to cover our increased expenses for 2025 and continue to build on the quality, safety, cleanliness and spacious space that we have built for those that seek recovery.

The time has come for those who enjoy the benefits that the 12’s offers to help support it. While those of us on the executive committee have dutifully steered our non-profit to this point, it truly is YOUR CLUBHOUSE.  We have developed a 4D PROGRAM (Donations from Dedicated Drunks and Drugees) asking for as little as $5 a week for persons to contribute to help solidify recovery in our area and grow our quality and reach.

Please consider giving what you can so we can continue to have a place to have meetings for the next alcoholic or addict who needs it.

Humbly and gratefully submitted,

The MEMBERS OF THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE HAMILTON 12 & 12
